Report: Mauresmo will play in 2009

PARIS, Nov. 26 (UPI) --

Former world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo thinks she has at least one more season left in her tennis career, she told L'Europe sports daily Wednesday.

In an interview with the French sports publication, the 29-year-old Mauresmo admitted she considered retirement last summer after splitting from long-time coach Loic Courteau, but finally has decided to attempt to regain full fitness and battle her way back to the top.

I was not that far from packing it all in because I was so far away from getting back to the level that I wanted to play at, she said. I want to prove to myself that I am strong enough to get back to my best form. I want to prove to myself that I am strong enough to get back to my best form.

In the 2008 season, her record was 32-19 with no titles.

She last won a tournament at the 2007 Proximus Diamond Games in Anterp, Belgium.
