NHL: Montreal 3, Detroit 1
DETROIT, Nov. 26 (UPI) --
Maxim Lapierre touched off a three-goal second period Wednesday that boosted Montreal to a 3-1 win over Detroit.
Lapierre broke a scoreless tie at 5:23 of the second and the Canadiens then got goals from Tomas Plekanec and Christoper Higgins for a 3-0 lead going into the final period.
Carey Price stopped 32 shots for the win and Montreal ended a two-game slide. Price slowed down the NHL's second-highest scoring team. Detroit came into the game with 75 goals, five fewer than league-leading San Jose.
Detroit lost in regulation for just the third time this season (14-3-4). Ty Conklin allowed all three goals on 25 shots.
Price lost his bid for a shutout with 6:29 to play when Johan Franzen scored on a backhander. It was his 10th goal of the season.
This was just the second Montreal win in Detroit in nine tries.
