MUMBAI, Nov. 27 (UPI) --
The death toll in the night-long orgy of terror attacks in India's financial capital Mumbai rose to 101 Thursday, including six foreigners, authorities said.
The violence, which began at 10 p.m. Wednesday, continued through most of Thursday as Indian security and police forces attempted to free hostages held by gunmen holed up in the city's two luxury hotels.
The death toll from the series of coordinated attacks stood at 101 Thursday afternoon, including at least six foreigners, , CNN reported, quoting authorities.
The Italian government told CNN one of its nationals had died while the nationalities of the others were not immediately known.
Among more than 300 injured in the city-wide attacks were seven Britons and two Australians, the report said.
Separately, the Israeli Consulate in Mumbai searched for its nationals at hospitals and other locations, other media reports said.
In addition to the two major hotels, some gunmen were also reported at the Nariman House, a favorite of Israeli tourists. A Jewish organization owns several other building in the city, which are also frequented by Israeli tourists.
An American woman who was inside the Taj Hotel with her husband told CNN by phone that television feeds to their room had stopped, leaving the couple in the dark about developments outside.
"We have water and we're hunkered down and patient and ready to wait it out," she said. "We're OK. Last night was a different story, but today we're OK."
