Thanksgiving cheer for wildfire victims

For many of California's wildfire victims Thanksgiving is just that -- a day of thanks for being alive and turkey dinners with all the trimmings.

It'll be one of the best Thanksgivings ever, Ginny Harmon, who lost the home she lived in for 29 years when fire swept across Southern California two weeks ago, told USA Today.

She'll be sitting down to a Thanksgiving dinner prepared by firefighters at a Los Angeles fire station for 60 of the displaced survivors.

It's one of several meals prepared for residents of the nearly 500 homes in the ruined Oakridge Mobile Home Park in the San Fernando Valley.

Students in the cooking club at the John H. Francis Polytechnic High School are preparing dinner for 250 residents.

Other sites have similar dinners under preparation for the displaced, most of them looking ahead with hope, not tears, USA Today said.

I'm just thankful we all got out alive, said another displaced homeowner, echoing thoughts of most.
