NFL fines Jim Haslett $20,000

NEW YORK, Nov. 27 (UPI) --

The NFL has fined St. Louis Rams Coach Jim Haslett $20,000 for swearing at the officials during a Nov. 16 game against San Francisco.

Late in the third quarter after completing a 29-yard pass to Donnie Avery, Rams quarterback Marc Bulger wanted to run his next play before the 49ers could challenge.

Avery had barely got his feet inbounds, and San Francisco eventually challenged the play.

An angered Haslett then exploded because the official stood over the ball, not allowing the Rams to run a play before the challenge.

He received a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and Wednesday was fined the $20,000 by the league for swearing at the officials.

Neither Haslett nor the team has commented.
