Passenger jet plunges into Mediterranean with five on board

MARSEILLE, France (AFP) --

An Airbus A320 passenger jet plunged into the Mediterranean sea off the French coast Thursday during a training flight which had five crew members on board, officials said.

The wreck of the plane has been located off the southern city of Perpignan, from where it had taken off, but there was no immediate information on the fate of the crew, they said.

A rescue plane and a rescue helicopter and coastguard ships were scouring the area around the crash site.
