Blasts wound Thai protesters
BANGKOK, Nov. 29 (UPI) --
At least four bombs detonated at anti-government protesters rally sites in Bangkok early Sunday, injuring at least 45 people, Xinhua reported.
The first bomb went off at midnight about 220 yards away from the People's Alliance for Democracy's main stage inside the Government House, which had been seized by the anti-government group. At least 45 party members were hurt.
About a half-hour later two more blasts were reported at ASTV station and witnesses reported hearing heard gunfire that lasted several minutes, Xinhua said. No injuries were reported at that location.
At Bangkok's Don Muang Airport, a bomb exploded about 4 a.m. near the main entrance to the passenger terminal. Several shots were heard prior to that explosion, Xinhua said. No injuries were reported.
On Saturday, the protesters had beaten back an attempt by police to stop more demonstrators from joining the occupation of the main airport, CNN reported.
The occupation of Suvarnabhumi International Airport began Tuesday, and protesters have also taken over the city's second major airport.
Police officials said they were open to negotiations with the protesters in an effort to end the standoff in a peaceful manner, The New York Times reported.
The People's Alliance has said the airport occupation would continue until Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat and his government resign. The prime minister left the capital for Chiang Mai Wednesday and issued an emergency decree Thursday.
