Queen On Freddie Mercury - Paul Rodgers
The album, titled The Cosmos Rocks comes 17 years after Freddie Mercury, the original singer and founder of the band, died from complications from AIDS. It's the first new material Queen has released since 1995 and the debut album of Queen +Paul Rodgers.
Surviving members of the band thought long and hard before staging a comeback with a new vocalist. Guitarist Brian May told Star magazine, "The first five years were the worst, but then life does go on. He wouldn't have approved of us just sitting on our asses collecting royalty checks."
Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor have collaborated with Paul Rodgers since 2004. May and Taylor established a working relationship with him after performing with him at an awards show.
Prior to working with Queen, Paul Rodgers played for the bands The Firm, The Law, Free and Bad Company.
Roger Taylor told the tabloid, "He gives us that blues edge. He doesn't try to be Freddie." He continued, "I don't think of myself, or anybody replacing Freddie."
Queen dedicated The Cosmos Rocks to Freddie Mercury. The album was released in America, Germany, Austria, Europe and Japan this fall.
