Streep not used to 'movie star' role

U.S. actress Meryl Streep says she does not know how to deal with her new position as a Hollywood movie star.

While the actress earned critical praise for films such as 1983's Sophie's Choice and 1985's Out of Africa, she said her newfound fame stemming from The Devil Wears Prada has left her out of sorts, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

I know how to be a lot of things, but I don't know how to be a movie star, Streep said. I'm trying to learn over time.

Streep's newest Hollywood offering, the drama Doubt, features the 59-year-old actress as a stern nun named Sister Aloysius who suspects a priest is having an inappropriate relationship with a child.

Streep is no stranger to roles of strong-willed women such as Aloysius, but she told the Times that the U.S. public is still warming up to such feminist concepts.

We're conflicted about women in power. We saw it in Hillary's campaign. We see it in Sarah Palin, Streep said, referring to former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
