ANAHEIM, Calif., Nov. 30 (UPI) --

James Harden's career-high 40 points Sunday led 14th-ranked Arizona State's 88-58 rout of Texas-El Paso.

In a dominant, all-around effort, Harden also had nine rebounds and five assists in the battle for third place at the 76 Classic in Anaheim.

Four of his seven three-pointers helped ASU build a 46-37 halftime advantage, and a 42-21 second half was fueled by Harden's 10 straight points.

Ty Abbott, the only other player in double figures, scored 12 with four rebounds for the Sun Devils (5-1), who were upset by Baylor 87-78 Friday.

They shot 48.4 percent from the floor and had a 41-27 rebounding edge.

The Sun Devils lead the all-time series by a 52-45 margin.

Randy Culpepper led UTEP with 24 points.

Stefon Jackson added 13 with three rebounds and three assists for the Miners (3-3), who have lost two in a row.
