How Rob Pattinson Prepared For 'Twilight' Role
Getting 'into character' can be time consuming, but Robert Pattinson was so pumped about landing the role of Edward Cullen in the film Twilight, he literally "pumped up" his exercise routine to look the part.
The British born, 22 year old actor told Life & Style magazine that he decided to become a six-packed Adonis for the role and followed a grueling workout regimen for two months.
Pattinson said that he did three hours of kickboxing and at least two hours of running daily. He also limited himself to one meal a day.
Pattinson said, "I was so much more muscular than I have ever been in my life, but I looked weird."
Twilight's director, Catherine Hardwicke agreed. Pattinson lost 30 pounds for his efforts, but Hardwicke ordered him to regain some of the weight he lost for the role.
In addition to a stringent workout routine, Pattinson said he prepared for the role using insights from Stephenie Meyer, the author of the book the movie is based on.
In another interview with Teen magazine he said, "She (Meyer) gave me the semi-finished manuscript from when she wrote Twilight from Edward's perspective. It was helpful for me - just the amount of violence that goes through his head, which isn't in (the book) at all, but you can see in the manuscript."
Of Edward Cullen, Rob said, "Edward is completely nuts! But it's kinda cool. I tried to incorporate that into the character a little bit."
Twilight opened in American theaters on November 21, 2008 and also stars Kristen Stewart, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene and Jackson Rathbone. The movie opens in in theaters throughout the world through Spring 2009.
