Monica Seles announced that she was retiring from tennis yesterday.

The 34 year old tennis player sustained injuries when a fan stabbed her and cut her professional career short. She played her last competitive match at the French Open in 2003. She said that thoughts of a comeback never left her mind.

Seles was born in the former Yugoslavia and moved to Florida when she was a young child and attended Nick Bollettieri Academy in Florida, which was later to be home to players including Russian Maria Sharapova and Serbian Jelena Jankovic.

We're saddened to hear that Seles has announced her retirement but look forward to hearing of her future endeavors.
