ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 11 (UPI) --
Police in Orange County, Fla., say they are working to determine if the remains of a child discovered Thursday are from missing child Caylee Anthony.
Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Solomons said since the remains were found within a half-mile of the home of the missing child's grandparents, investigators are working quickly to identity the body found in a wooded area by a utility worker, WKMG-TV of Orlando, Fla., reported.
"Deputies did respond to that area, and once we were on the scene, we determined that we do have the remains of a young child. Obviously, our concern is that it's in close proximity to some recent activity in that part of the county, and it's incumbent upon us to determine what we have," Solomons said.
Orlando's WFTV said the remains were found in of a bag by a Orange County water meter reader.
Caylee Anthony went missing in June, months before her third birthday, and her mother, Casey, has remained a key suspect in her disappearance and possible death.
WKMG-TV said Casey Anthony was on hand Thursday for a hearing for her impending murder trial, which is scheduled to begin on Jan. 5.
