The search for evidence in the case of missing 3-year-old Caylee Anthony has intensified in Orange County, Fla., after a child's remains were found, police say.

Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Carlos Padilla said investigators spent the early part of the weekend searching the area around the site where the unidentified remains were found by a water-meter reader, the Orlando Sentinel reported Sunday.

The remains, which included a human skull, were found last week near the Orlando home where Anthony lived with her mother and grandparents.

Anthony, who was 2 years old at the time, was reported missing in July and her mother Casey has since become a prime suspect in her disappearance and possible death.

Linda Kenney Baden, who is helping represent Casey Anthony, said in a hearing last Friday that the discovered remains' measurements and hair color allegedly matched those of the missing child.

The possibility that the child's remains could have been near her home during the frantic search for her was shocking to bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, who bailed Casey Anthony out of jail at one point.

"At first you feel stupid," he told the Sentinel. "Nobody thought to look around the corner."
