ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 18 (UPI) --
The FBI took hair samples from a little girl's remains to see if they match DNA of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony, a police source said Thursday.
An Orange County, Fla., Sheriff's Office spokesman would not confirm what items were being examined, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.
"We know that the court team spoke about a 3-inch piece of bone that would be used during the identification process; we have not provided any identification of items recovered at the scene except for the skull and bag," spokesman Capt. Angelo Nieves said in an e-mail to the Sentinel.
The remains, discovered by a county meter reader Dec. 11, have not been positively identified and autopsy results are expected within a few weeks.
Authorities have said 2-year-old Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, 22, waited about a month before telling her family Caylee was gone. Caylee's grandmother called police July 15, saying her daughter would not tell her where Caylee was.
Anthony was indicted on first-degree murder in Caylee's death Oct. 14. She remains jailed and has no contact with other inmates.
Local and federal investigators continued to sift through the woods Thursday.
