ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 19 (UPI) --
A man who recently reported finding bones believed to be those of the missing child Caylee Anthony had tipped authorities as far back as August, officials said.
Capt. Angelo Nieves, an Orange County, Fla., Sheriff's Department commander, said investigators are looking into whether several August tips from the man, a meter-reader -- as well as information from other sources -- were properly handled, CNN reported. The commander said a "cursory search" after one of the tips turned up nothing.
The most recent tip came last week, when remains were found about a half-mile from the child's grandparents' home. Caylee Anthony's mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, faces charges including first-degree murder in the child's June disappearance.
Besides the utility employee's tips about the grizzly find, KioMarie Cruz, Casey Anthony's childhood friend, also told police to investigate the same wooded area, Orlando, Fla., television station WFTV reported.
Nieves said the sheriff's office followed up on the tip, but the wooded area was flooded, preventing a search. The area also could have been flooded when the meter-reader's tips came in as well, he said.
