Eartha Kitt Dies At Age 81
LOS ANGELES, Ca., Dec.26 (TOTI) --

Eartha Kitt, the original performer of the Christmas song Santa Baby passed away on Christmas day. She was 81 years old.

Eartha was diagnosed with colon cancer two years ago and was treated at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York. A long time friend and publicist of the entertainer said that the cancer had returned and was the cause of her death.

During her career, Eartha Kitt was once called "most exciting woman in the world" by Orson Welles. She starred in numerous films, television shows and stage productions. She was an Emmy and Tony Award nominee and won Daytime Emmy and Annie Awards for her work in the television show the Emperor's New School as recently as 2007 and 2008.

Her publicist told Reuters"She came back strongly. She had been performing until two months ago. We had dates booked through 2009."

Eartha Kitt is survived by one daughter, Kitt and two grandchildren.
