What You Can Do To Lower Gas Prices

What you can do to lower gas prices

This summer is starting off with some amazingly high gas prices. Today as I drove past my local BP, I noticed regular unleaded gas was being sold for $3.29 a gallon.. the highest price I remember seeing for gas in a long time. In fact I overheard a lady saying that she was "going to have to take out a loan" to pay for a tankful of petrol. Her car took $45.00 worth of gas - which ended up being a little over 13 gallons.

If gas prices are hitting you where it hurts, here are some tips for you to reduce the amount of money you spend on gas.

  • Carpool or use public transportation whenever possible.
  • Walk or ride your bike to run errands like going to the post office or banking in your neighborhood.
  • Plan ahead. If you're driving, have a list of things you need to do. Finish everything in one outing so you won't have to drive again later.
  • Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Tires that don't have the proper air pressure aren't as effecient and will burn more gasoline.
  • Limit the use of your air conditioner when driving. Running your car's air conditioner burns extra fuel, running the fan or having an open window or sunroof will keep an air exchange.
  • Obey the speed limit. Driving with a leadfoot with jack rabbit starts and quick acceleration will quickly burn through gasoline.
  • Remove unnecessary weight from the car. The more your car weighs, the more fuel it consumes. Hauling things like mulch, sand or other heavy objects will eventually add up in fuel consumption.

I hope that you find these gas saving tips helpful and that you'll use as many of them as you can to help reduce the amount of gas you use. Every penny counts, you know!
