A power outage in Florida has 4 million without electric

Power is being restored now, but large parts of Florida are still without power.

So far FPL has not determined an exact cause of the outage.

"It happens to be a power outage of a major kind," Villafana said, "It could be something in our system, it could be Florida wide in the system, something that happened. We're still investigating."

Children in Miami-Dade schools were kept in their classrooms when the power was out, as a precautionary measure.

Two nuclear power plants have been shut down as a result of the still undescribed incident.

Florida Power and Electric says that most of South Florida should have power restored by 6pm Eastern Standard Time at the latest.
