Banish The Bags
by Nancy Troxell in this-and-that

Recently the Daily Mail announced an initiative to banish plastic shopping bags in Britain. These plastic shopping bags are a danger to animals and the environment because they don't degrade and can cause suffocation when animals ingest them.

These bags kill all kinds of wildlife, turtles get entangled in these bags and if they eat them, mistaking them for jellyfish, will slowly die. Birds can get caught in a bags handle, causing strangulation or get caught up in the bag, disabling it from flying.

On top of all this, plastic bags take over 1,000 years to break down which endangers the planet. If it doesn't break down, it's pollution.

Even if you aren't British, you still are a member of the "Earth" and should try to do what you can to banish the bag for generations to come. Check your local grocery store or Wal-Mart and see if they have a "Plastic Bag Recycling bin. If they do, return your used plastic bags instead of tossing them in your garbage. Cloth shopping bags are another alternative. For just a few dollars, (or less in some cases) you can buy reusable cloth shopping bags. Once you unpack your groceries, return them to the car for the next time.

I hope that you'll do your part to Banish The Bag.
