Former announcer for the Pittsburg Steelers, Myron Cope has passed away at the age of 79.

Joe Gordon, longtime friend of Cope said he died in a nursing home in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania on Wednesday. He had recently been treated for respiratory problems and heart failure.

Cope had a 35 season tenure that lasted from 1970- 2004. He was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2005. Even after he retired, Cope continued to do advertising for many years.

Another great voice of America has fallen silent.
