Jeff Pendergraph delivered 31 points Friday and No. 14 Arizona State began its Pac-10 Conference season with a 90-60 blasting of previously-unbeaten Stanford.

Pendergraph's point total was a career high and he also claimed 11 rebounds. James Harden added 17 points and 10 assists for the Sun Devils (12-1), who won their eighth straight since suffering their lone loss to Baylor Nov. 29.

Stanford had won its first 10 games of the season, including a 111-66 thrashing of Texas Tech. Lawrence Hill led the Cardinal with 14 points.

This is Arizona's best start since the Sun Devils went 15-1 to begin the 1974-75 season.
