Gervais slams surgical weight-loss efforts

LONDON, Jan. 3 (UPI) --

British comedian Ricky Gervais says people who use risky surgical procedures to lose weight are simply lazy.

The star of the British TV series "The Office" offered an unapologetic take on such surgical patients in his new audio book "The Ricky Gervais Guide to Medicine," The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

"They have bits sliced off and tied up and sucked out. I want to say to them, 'You lazy (expletive) fat pig. Just go for a run and stop eating burgers. You might (expletive) die,'" Gervais said.

"If your arse is too (expletive) fat, stop eating and go for a run."

Gervais, whose most recent Hollywood effort was the movie "Ghost Town," admitted he, too, should do something about his own obesity, the Telegraph said.

"I laugh about being fat, but I should be ashamed. I should walk down the street and have people shouting 'Fatty!' That's what I want, to get me out of it," the comedian said.
