Jonathan McCullum was starved by his host family
Usually we hear about what a positive experience being a foreign exchange student is. But for Jonathan McCullum, it almost became a nightmare as he was nearly starved to death by his host family.
McCullum weight 155 pounds at the beginning of his stay in Egypt, but weighed only 97 pounds when he returned to the United States. Doctors warned him that his health was in serious condition and he could even have a heart attack.
Jonathan McCullum says he is the victim of mean and stingy treatment by the host family. He stuck it out, because he didn't want to give in to the treatment.
"The weight loss concerned me, but I wanted to stick out the whole year," he said.
He claims he was starved by the host family, but the head of that family disagrees. "The truth is, the boy we hosted for nearly six months was eating for an hour and a half at every meal. The amount of food he ate at each meal was equal to six people," he said.
