NHL: Nashville 5, Pittsburgh 3

NASHVILLE, Jan. 8 (UPI) --

Ryan Suter put Nashville in front midway through the third period Thursday and the Predators overcame a three-goal deficit to defeat Pittsburgh 5-3.

After allowing the first three goals of the game, Nashville stormed back to halt a five-game losing streak.

Pekka Rinne, who came on for Dan Ellis after the starter gave up two goals on seven shots, picked up the win by making 17 saves.

Martin Erat started the comeback by scoring 7:57 into the second on a backhander and David Legwand added a shorthanded goal with 6:28 to play in the period. Nashville tied it with 55 seconds to go in the second on Jerred Smithson's wrist shot that got past Marc-Andre Fleury.

Suter's goal came on the power play at 9:04 of the third and Greg Zanon delivered an empty netter with 23 seconds remaining.

Pittsburgh was trying to win back-to-back games for the first time since mid-November, when the Penguins put together a six-game winning streak. Fleury allowed four goals on 34 shots in Pittsburgh's sixth loss in seven games.
