Stacey Herald gives birth to a baby nearly her own size

An 18 inch baby from a 24 inch mother? That is exactly what happened when Stacey Herald gave birth to her new daughter.

Stacey Herald, 33, was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic disorder that can cause bones to break easily. Her daughter, 18 inch Makaia does not suffer from the disease, although her other 18 month old daughter does.

Herald claims she's the shortest woman to ever give birth. That claim is being checked by the Guiness Book of World's Records.

“My whole life I've been told that I wasn't able to have children, (and) I would not live through the pregnancy – that with the size of my torso, the baby would grow up underneath my lungs and smother out my lungs and my heart, and we would both die,” Herald told WLWT television.

“Something inside me just didn't believe that.”
