Netflix Instant Play Movie Review - Spun (2002)
This weekend was a perfect weekend to take advantage of Netflix's Instant Play feature. The skies brought several inches of snow and made driving treacherous, especially for something as trivial as renting movies.

After clicking through our "Instant Queue," we decided to watch the 2002 film Spun, starring Brittany Murphy, Jason Schwartzman, Mena Suvari, Mickey Rourke and John Leguizamo in a tale about methamphetamine addiction.

Needless to say, the movie wasn't airy and light, but it had artistic features that helped 'capture' the feeling of getting high and presented the material in an interesting fashion.

Murphy, Suvari and Schwartzman play the roles of meth addicts, while Mickey Rourke plays the spot-on role of "The Cook," who is responsible for creating batches of the highly addictive drug for an entire town.

The movie doesn't delve much into the motives of the characters, but gives you more of a "fly on the wall" feeling as you drop into their frantic lives for a 72 hour time period.

It comes as no surprise that there is no "happy ending" in Spun, but the trip is presented in an interesting way.

The movie is rated R and contains violence, partial nudity, drug use and foul language, so it's best to watch this one after the kids are in bed.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best, I give Spun a 7 for offering something different in a cookie cutter movie world.
