Digital TV Converter - Analog Televisions Go Dark On February 17, 2009
CLEVELAND, Oh., Jan.15 (TOTI) --
The countdown to digital television is on.
The federal government has mandated that by February 17, 2009 all analog televisions must be on digital signals in order to work correctly.
If you're still using "rabbit ears," it doesn't mean that you have to buy a new television, but you'll need to purchase a digital converter in order for your analog television to work.
TV's that rely on an antenna to pick up a TV signal will no longer function. Sets that have a cable or satellite service are not affected by the change and will operate normally.
There are a number of reasons that digital television is better than analog. Digital TV eliminates bad reception, so that you can enjoy a better picture quality from local broadcasters, instead of a fuzzy low quality reception.
In support of the upcoming digital TV conversion, consumers that need to purchase a Digital TV converter are eligible for coupons to help the digital transition from the government. Consumers can apply for the Digital converter coupon at DTV2009.gov. This coupon can be redeemed at online and offline retailers. Consumers can choose from a number of different digital converter boxes. With the discount coupon, a converter box can cost as little as $10.00. Features can vary from model to model, so not all digital converter boxes are created the same.
With only 33 days left until the United States moves on to digital television, one thing is for sure.. You don't have much time to make the digital conversion.. Don't let your analog signal go dark on February 17, 2009.
