Movie Review - Danny Roane - First Time Director (2006)

Danny Roane - First Time Director is Andy Dick's first movie as a director

This movie is all Andy Dick. He wrote, produced, directed, and starred in it. Andy Dick uses his traditional dead pan style to tell the story of washed up actor Danny Roane who has blown most of his opportunities for success in Hollywood, due to his alcoholism and addictions. Now he has a chance to direct his first feature film.

Of course, Danny Roane is not all that different from Andy Dick, expect in one major way. Dick really knows how to make a funny movie.

People who love this movie will likely be those under the influence of drugs when they watch it, as I was. I suggest you grab your bong if you really plan on understanding Danny Roane. Video from Roane's fictional movie, such as "It's a Wonderful Day for Drugs" will be funniest to high viewers.

This movie is loaded with Cameos by a huge number of people, including Ben Stiller and Jack Black. Much of the comedy is improvised, and designed to offend. Dick takes direct aim at alcoholism. He swigs liquor out of a Jack Daniels bottle that has had masking tape applied and the word "Water" written on it. He is literally daring the baffled crew to accuse him of being drunk.

My suggestion is to grab your bong and rent "Danny Roane: First Time Director". Keep an open mind and many of the jokes are bound to leave you laughing out loud.
