The Real Dirt On Farmer John (2006) - Movie Review
by Bambi in movies

Last night I watched the movie The Real Dirt On Farmer John based on the trials and tribulations faced by farmer John Peterson.
This movie was put together well - they constructed the family farm in a linear fashion using video from the era. You see John as a young boy and get to "watch him grow" as the story continues.
The family farm changed over the years. There was a period of time that "hippies" were a part of the farm - giving Peterson a bad reputation in his community after rumors spread that they were devil worshippers. Later, when Peterson was unable to pay debts incurred by the farm operation, he was forced to sell off substantial amounts of land and equipment to satisfy them. It wasn't much longer that many other farmers in the area succumbed to the same fate.
This movie is inspiring because it shows one man's will to do what he loves - organic farming. Peterson found relief by turning his family farm into a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) that provides fresh fruits and vegetables its' members.
If you are looking to learn a little about the basics of farming and agriculture, The Real Dirt On Farmer John comes highly recommended.
