Michael Phelps Apologizes About Bong Pics
LOS ANGELES, Ca., Feb. 2 (TOTI) --

Recently photos of 12 time gold medalist Michael Phelps surfaced showing the swimmer hitting a bong. Now Phelps wants us to know just how sorry he is.

"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," a statement Phelps released to the Associated Press said. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."

The photos were from November, three months after the end of the Olympics in Beijing. Phelps was at a house party at the University of South Carolina when the spirit of the Doobie moved him.

"Michael has acknowledged that he made a mistake and apologized for his actions," a statement from the USOC said. "We are confident that, going forward, Michael will consistently set the type of example we all expect from a great Olympic champion."

Both Phelps and the USOC missed the main point: marijuana use should be legal.
