Black Snake Moan - 2006 - Movie Review
by Bambi in movies

This weekend I watched the drama/comedy Black Snake Moan starring Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci and Justin Timberlake. On a scale of one to five (one being worst)I'd give this movie a two.
Black Snake Moan is set in the sweltering South, so for most of the movie, Rae (Ricci) wears very little clothing and fights off jungle urges to hump every man in town.
Rae is devastated after her boyfriend Ronnie (Timberlake) leaves for the armed services, so she decides to get drunk and take some pills. Later she gets beaten and left for dead in front of Lazarus' (Jackson) home. Lazarus takes her in resolves to "get the wickedness out of her."
This is when the fun begins. A chain and an old radiator make for the perfect restraint and you find out more about Rae's troubled past.
The themes and feel of this movie didn't sit right with me. It seemed to be overdone with the overall "typecasting" of the characters. To help portray just how "south" they were, characters wore Confederate T-shirts and had plenty of disabled pick up trucks with their hoods open.
Black Snake Moan left me feeling like I'd just wasted an hour and a half of my life. With all the twists and turns, you'll be happy when this movie finally ends.
