LOS ANGELES, Feb. 9 (UPI) --
Wrigley said Monday it is suspending its Doublemint gum ad campaign featuring Chris Brown in light of the singer's arrest in Los Angeles for alleged battery.
The 19-year-old recording artist was arrested Sunday night, but released after posting $50,000 bail. He is under investigation for allegedly attacking his girlfriend, 20-year-old singer Rihanna, early Sunday morning, police said.
Brown and Rihanna dropped out at the last minute for Sunday night's Grammy Awards show where they were slated to perform and where both were up for multiple awards. Neither won the prizes for which they were nominated.
"We have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown and any related marketing communications until the matter is resolved," Wrigley said in a statement issued to TMZ Monday.
The celebrity Web site said Wrigley didn't indicate it was completely severing its ties to Brown just yet, however, as the company noted he should be "afforded the same due process as any citizen."
The Los Angeles Times said Brown's arraignment has been scheduled for March 5.
The newspaper said calls to Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, were not immediately returned.
