Sussex Spaniel - Stump - Wins 2009 Westminster Dog Show
MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, NY. Feb.11 (TOTI) --

A 10 year old Sussex Spaniel named "Stump" took home the "Top Dog" award at the 2009 Westminster Dog Show, held at Madison Square Garden.

Stump came out of 'retirement' to compete at the dog show and is the now the oldest dog to hold the coveted crown. He beat out thousands
of other canines from 170 different breeds to become "Best In Show."

Even though Stump is almost 70 years old in human years, his age didn't slow him down and he became the first of his breed to secure the silver cup. Prior to this year, his last Westminster appearance was in 2004.

Last year's Westminster "Best In Show" winner was a beagle named Uno.

Now that Stump has risen to the top, his handler, Scott Sommer, confirmed that "he's really retired this time."

Other finalists for the dog show included a Scottish deerhound, a giant schnauzer, a Brussels griffon, a standard poodle, a puli and a Scottish
terrior.

As a reward for his showmanship, Stump enjoyed a first-class airline ticket back to his home in Houston, Texas.
