Chris Brown Becomes Social Pariah After Alleged Rihanna Beating
Chris Brown is falling from grace just about as rapidly as he rose. The R&B singer, who allegedly beat his girlfriend Rihanna before the Grammy Awards, is experiencing his comeuppance in record time.
The singer will have his day in court, but since he's being charged with felony domestic abuse, sponsors are quickly distancing themselves from him at Olympic sprinter speed.
Not only are his sponsors fleeing, but radio stations in Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis have now refused to play his music.
Judging from the reaction of Americans in recent times, it's safe to say we don't want our heroes beating women, or killing dogs. When a former hero who was once perceived to do no wrong shows their flawed and human sides, the average person gains some satisfaction at their downfall.
Really, who can blame anyone for being mad? Chris Brown has no right to hit anyone, let alone a female.
If the allegations against him turn out to be true, and are as shocking as early reports indicate they might be, then it's likely Brown could spend serious time in prison.
Without a squeaky clean image, Brown won't be wearing a patented "Milk Mustache" past this week. The popular ads are ending on Friday.
"The Milk Mustache campaign is taking the allegations against Chris Brown very seriously," said a spokesman for the campaign.
Wrigley already pulled his ads for their gum.
Michael Vick saw the same type of sudden fall from grace when allegations of animal cruelty came to the surface. His saga ended with him in prison and financially ruined. If Brown is lucky, he'll be able to rehabilitate his image faster than Vick, and sidestep some of the trouble heading his way. He is, after all, just a kid at 19 years of age, and he made a mistake.
The problem is, he made a loathsome and huge mistake, and he got caught.
The real key to what happens to Brown will result from what Rihanna has to say about the incident. If the details she releases really are as "horrific" as some reports say they are, Brown will probably be in deep doo-doo.
In any event, I feel bad for both Rihanna and Chris Brown. A downbeat emotional day turned physical, and now two careers that were intertwined and doing so well are hitting a dark period.
I hope better days are ahead for them both.
