Is Debt Settlement the Next Scam?

t starts out by the person in debt checking their junk-mail noticing "Debt Free in Months!" in the subject line. They then click on the link in that email which directs them to a popup page showing some form of happy moment with lots of smiley faces, blue skies, and wild flowers (I guarantee we have all see these emails). Within 5 minutes the barrage of emails and phone calls commence (and this goes for weeks, even months).

How do we pick a company that has our best interest at heart? Especially when every person you talk to sounds better than the last.

Truth is - Debt Settlement works. The bad news is that there are too many wolves in sheep's clothing in the field. Debt Settlement or Debt Negotiation works because in order to settle you have to be delinquent on your bills. Once you are behind, then the bartering begins; and when I say bartering, I mean haggling. Haggling is a concept that dates back thousands upon thousands of years. We do it today: the purchase of a home, a car, a t-shirt in cancun. Yet despite how well it works, it shouldn't be confused for a free pass to get out of your bills. Debt Settlement is an aggressive form of debt that can literally get you out debt free within months, but there is a price associated with this as well.

A true company will assess all your options and not paint the sky blue. A true company will lay out EXACTLY what the implications are on your credit and how the settlement process actually works. A true company will point you in another direction even if you could qualify for debt settlement just because they are thinking about your best interest.
