LOS ANGELES, Feb. 20 (UPI) --
Barbados-born singer Rihanna, who was allegedly beaten by her boyfriend Chris Brown this month, is doing well, her publicist said Friday.
Brown, 19, was arrested Feb. 8 in Los Angeles and charged with making a criminal threat. He posted bail and is slated to be arraigned next month.
"At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown," Rihanna's publicist said in a statement issued to People magazine Friday, Rihanna's 21st birthday. "She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time."
People.com noted this was the first statement made by Rihanna's camp since Brown's arrest. The remarks came a day after a photo purportedly of Rihanna's battered face was posted on the Internet.
The union that represents Los Angeles police officers said Friday it supported the police department's decision to open an internal investigation to determine whether the photo of Rihanna was part of police evidence in the case, the Los Angeles Times reported.
