What Did Obama Say?

Barack Obama defends his bitter comments

Uh, oh, Barack Obama has put his foot in it this time. He is taking heat for saying that some voters in Pennsylvania are "bitter", and "cling to guns and religion". The comments have gone over like a lead ballon, forcing Obama to clarify.

"I didn't say it as well as I should have," Obama said during an appearance in Muncie, Indiana, "because the truth is that these traditions that are passed on from generation to generation -- those are important."

"Obviously, if I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that," Obama said Saturday in an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal, according to a transcript provided by his campaign.

"The underlying truth of what I said remains, which is simply that people who have seen their way of life upended because of economic distress are frustrated and rightfully so," said Obama. "And I hear it all the time when I visit these communities."

Of course political opponents Hillary Clinton and John McCain has taken the opportunity to jump on Obama about the comments.

Do you accept Obama's explanation?
