Paris Hilton DUI Circus Rolls On

by Alan Henderson in gossip

Paris Hilton is big news. She's so big, in fact, that the judge that sentenced her to serve 45 days for a DUI say he can't believe how much attention her conviction has garnered. Apparently he's never seen "Access Hollywood". The socialite herself hasn't been quiet in recent days, she's sending a heartfelt appeal to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I'm terrified that someone is going to hurt me, that I'll be a target" Paris told a friend.

Paris has a deep set of resources to tap in her case, including a family fortune. She appears ready to pull out all stops in order to avoid jail time. She's already appealed her sentence, hired a lawyer who specializes in DUI, and started a new campaign of contrition.

"After reading the media's coverage of my court hearing, I feel the need to correct what I believe are misperceptions about me," Hilton was quoted by AFP as saying, adding she recognized the seriousness of her initial drink-driving charge. "I absolutely realize how serious driving under the influence is. I could not live with myself if anyone was injured or killed while I was driving while impaired. Clearly, no one should -- no matter how slightly." "No one is above the law. I surely am not," she said. "I do not expect to be treated better than anyone else who violated probation. However, my hope is that I will not be treated worse."

So even though Paris is trying everything to avoid jail, it might not be enough as forces greater than her align to incarcerate her. Personally, I feel Paris Hilton needs to go to jail. She won't learn anything about the concept of personal responsibility unless she does.

If you look back at your own life, you realize that most of the lessons you "learn" you do so through the pain of a negative experience. And this should happen for Paris Hilton, who desperately needs to improve her character.

I think the average reader is with me on this. We can look at all of Paris' legal maneuvering, her reticence to accept responsibility, and we can only conclude that if she gets out of this, like everything else in her life, it won't be a lesson she learns. Jail Paris for her own good!

Do you think Paris Hilton should be jailed?
