LOS ANGELES, March 5 (UPI) --
Singer Chris Brown's lawyers are in talks with the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office about a possible plea deal, sources told E! News.
The 19-year-old recording artist is to be arraigned this week on charges stemming from his arrest for the alleged assault of his 21-year-old girlfriend, singer Rihanna, during a heated argument last month. The couple reportedly have since reconciled.
E! News said the deal with prosecutors could mean probation rather than jail time for Brown.
The Los Angeles Police Department handed off the case to the district attorney's office Wednesday, however, Brown's defense attorney Mark Geragos began meeting with prosecutors to discuss a deal earlier in the week, the entertainment news Web site.
