The Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., is planning to celebrate humanity's achievements in space as well the U.S. center's own 50th anniversary.

National Aeronautics and Space Administration officials say they will host a world space party on April 4 called "Yuri's Night DC" at the Goddard Visitor Center.

"Attendees will celebrate in a club atmosphere with a future-tech twist," officials said, adding "Galactic attire is encouraged."

Event goers must be at least 21 years old and a government issued ID is required for admittance. Tickets are $10 in advance and $20 at the door.

The event is called a worldwide celebration of the anniversary of mankind's first foray into space. Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space on April 12, 1961.

More than 118 Yuri's Night parties have been planned in 35 nations.
