TRENTON, N.J., March 29 (UPI) --
Briann January's 22 points and five assists Sunday led Arizona State to an 84-69 win over Texas A&M at the NCAA Women's Trenton (N.J.) Region semifinals.
The sixth-seeded Lady Sun Devils shot 66.7 percent from the field on the way to a 42-37 edge at the break, and then shot 57.7 percent in a 42-32 second half.
A&M closed to 68-65 on two free throws by Takia Starks with 7:12 left, but ASU ran out of gas during its comeback.
Arizona State faces top-seeded Connecticut Tuesday in the region final.
Tanisha Smith led A&M with 19 points, three rebounds and five steals.
Starks scored 18 while Danielle Gant added 13 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for the second-seeded Lady Aggies (27-8), who had limited opponents to an average of 43.5 points in two earlier tournament victories against Evansville and Minnesota.
