Demi Lovato Is Famous But Normal
Demi Lovato is a pretty big Disney star. But she's not yet so famous that she can't go out in public without being mobbed. She recently described a typical outing with Jonas Brothers member Joe Jonas.
"We went to Urban Outfitters and I was like 'Joe, you have to get this,' and he was like 'Demi, you have to get this!" Lovato, 16, told People. "We didn't mean to spend that much money!"
Even though she was at a crowded mall, her fame didn't get in the way of an enjoyable shopping experience.
"A lot of people still don't know me, so fortunately I can go out an be really normal," she said.
But Demi can't expect to be anonymous for long. She's starring in Sonny with a Chance on the Disney Channel.
"It's like a 30 Rock for kids, and I'm kind of like the Tina Fey character," she said. "It's so much fun. There's pressure to carry your own show definitely. But I've had a while to mentally prepare for this."
Lovato is a veteran of the entertainment business who got her first acting job at the tender age of six.
Along with the fame came hatred. Even in grade school, Demi found she had a group of dedicated haters.
"There was a petition called 'We Hate Demi'", she said. "They would text me and say 'We're going to make your life a living hell.'" I remember asking them 'What did I do?' and no one could answer."
When the bullying threatened to go physical, Demi's mom pulled her from the school in favor of home schooling.
Now Demi lives in L.A. and enjoys her life fully. Now she hangs out with other teen celebs like Joe Jonas and Selena Gomez.
"Demi's a big dork! She's hilarious," Joe said. "She's so well-poised and has so much confidence in herself."
Trips to the mall are bound to get more difficult as Demi's star rises in 2009.
