Richard Poplawski Identified As Stanton Heights Shooter
The month of April is off to a very violent start as far as random shootings are concerned.
The day after a disgruntled man opened fire and killed 14 people at an immigration center in Binghamton, New York, another man in Stanton Heights, Pennsylvania opened fire and killed 3 police officers after they were called to his home.
At least two other police officers were injured in the firestorm.
The shooter, identified as Richard Poplawski, 23, was arrested after a several hour stand-off with law enforcement. It's unclear whether officers responded to the home on a domestic dispute call or if they were there to serve an arrest warrant.
During the stand-off, Poplawski communicated with friends via a cell phone. In one phone call he stated, "..I'm going to die today.. tell your family I love them and I love you.."
Several neighbors said they heard hundreds of gunshots. A friend of Poplawski confirmed the suspect owned several firearms, including an AK-47 and a Magnum .357.
Although the motive for the shootings is yet unknown, Richard Poplawski reportedly lost his job earlier this year.
Officials are still on the crime scene and continue their investigation.
