Scott Kalitta died when his Funny Car burst into flames (Video)

46 year old race car driver Scott Kalitta is dead after his Funny Car exploded into a ball of flames at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Scott Kalitta had been involved in drag racing his whole life and was the son of drag race legend Connie "The Bounty Hunter" Kalitta.

The accident was a shock even to people who have been around drag racing their whole life like Don Prudhomme.

"I haven't witnessed anything like that in a number of years," Prudhomme said. "The car didn't slow up enough, got airborne, and he happened to hit a post that's virtually impossible to do. ... I would've never thought that you could get airborne and hit that guardrail and hit that post."

Our condolences go out to the whole Kalitta family, and fans of drag racing everywhere.
