John McCain has pulled close to Barack Obama in fund raising
For Mr. McCain, of Arizona, it was one of his best fund-raising months, with $21.8 million coming in from individual donors and from three joint Republican fund-raising dinners. For Mr. Obama, of Illinois, it was one of his weaker months, drawing $21.9 million.
The money in the two candidates coffers has pulled nearly even. McCain now was $31.6 million to Obama's $33.3 million war chest.
More troubling for Obama is the fact that his May take of $22 million was the smallest of the year. Right now the Republican money raising machine is kicking into gear as Obama's tapers off. Still, Obama is way ahead in the totals for the campaign. He has brought in $296 million in donations, while McCain is only up to $122 million.
