Rihanna trying to retrieve seized jewelry

LOS ANGELES, April 25 (UPI) --

An attorney for Rihanna says police should return $1.4 million in jewelry seized as evidence in a Los Angeles assault case.

Attorney Donald Etra filed a Los Angeles County Superior Court motion in an attempt to retrieve a pair of earrings and three designer rings being held as evidence in relation to the alleged assault on Rihanna by her boyfriend, singer Chris Brown, the Los Angeles Times said Saturday.

"The investigating officer gave me his opinion that photographs would be sufficient, and the (district attorney) said to write her a letter and they'd consider returning it," Etra said in regards to Tuesday's court filing. "I have heard nothing since the last letter to the DA."

The items of jewelry were all on loan to Rihanna during the night of the alleged Feb. 8 incident in Los Angeles.

Etra alleges the four designers who loaned the items to Rihanna have lost money as a result of the holding of the jewelry as evidence. Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Fenty, borrowed the items to wear to the Grammy Awards the night of the alleged assault, the Times said.
