FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 27 (UPI) --
Chad Marshall scored the game's only goal Saturday night when the Columbus Crew beat New England 1-0.
The victory gave the Crew (15-6-5) 50 points -- good for an eight-point lead over second-place New England (12-8-6) in the East -- and helped them close in on the Supporters' Shield, given to MLS team with the best regular-season record.
Marshall's goal -- his fourth of the season -- came in the 35th minute on a corner kick. Columbus goalkeeper Will Hesmer posted his eighth shutout of the season.
