iPhone 3G Launch Off To Rocky Start

The highly anticipated launch of the 3G iPhone didn't go as smoothly as planned.

The world waited with bated breath for the launch of the new 3g iPhone, but the network and suppliers let many early adapters down.

Some consumers waited in line for as long as three days to be one of the first on their block to own the 3G Smartphone. The primary problem was getting the iPhone activated in a timely manner. Some activations took as long as 15 - 20 minutes and a server crash on Apple's end prevented many of the phones from being activated at all. Apple said they wanted to activate each phone to discourage the unauthorized sale of "unblocked" phones overseas.

A number of people weren't happy with having to wait a minute longer to get their iPhone fix. One impatient customer that waited in line for several hours said "I was like, 'Well, hello. I have already been patient. I have been patient in line for hours, I have been patient waiting for you to activate my phone, and I have been patient waiting for months for the phone to even come out. That's a lot of patience.' "

In the end, many customers had to activate the phone at home hours later, rendering the phone useless until it could be completed.

The 3G iPhone has already sold out in many stores in the United States as well as in Australia and New Zealand.
