Miss Universe 2008 Coverage

The 2008 Miss Universe Competition was held in Vietnam last night.

Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza was crowned as 2008 Miss Universe. The statuesque beauty beat out 79 other contestants to bring home the crown. She is the 57th reigning Miss Universe.

This is the first Miss Universe contest that was broadcast in 1080i high definition.

The evening was filled with surprises, including a runway tumble by Miss USA Crystle Stewart of Texas. She tripped on the train of her formal evening gown.

The beauty pagaent was hosted by Jerry Springer and Melanie Brown. Lady GaGa, a 22 year old singer/songwriter performed her single Just Dance.

First runner up went to Taliana Vargas of Columbia, Second runner up went to Marianne Cruz of the Dominican Republic and third runner up was Vera Krasova of Russia.
